On Kiki and Availability

January 16th, 2007 (07:16 am)

This is Kiki-Mun.

Life, as it sometimes gets, has been insane lately. First there was finishing my thesis and defending and graduating, along with finding a job. Then it was finding a place to live, followed by the holidays, going right into moving on the ONE AND ONLY DAY SO FAR THIS WINTER that it actually snowed (Yeah, try driving a 14' totally traction-less U-Haul on unsanded and unsalted roads...), and getting set up in my new apartment, and yesterday I started my new job and am now part of the work-a-day world.

As it has now been well over several months since I have had Kiki do anything at all, and nearly as long since I even checked the communities, I'm withdrawing Kiki from the game. All her posts and profile will still be here, but I've been inactive for so long I can't truly say I'm playing anymore.

It's been a blast, folks, and many of you I'll still see around in personal journals.

Always keep a little magic in your heart,
Kiki-Mun.

OOC Update

November 28th, 2006 (11:06 am)

I have been remiss in RP lately, I know! Sorry - November was NaWriMyGodDaTheMo for me, and I not only WON, I successfully defended said thesis, just in time to go to my 'rents for Thanksgiving and rot my brain on far more turkey, mashed potatoes, and Lego Star Wars II for the PS2 than might be considered strictly healthy.

Now I'm on the hunt for a job, do my thesis revisions, and get that sucker on off to be printed and bound, but I should hopefully be a little more available for RP - still spotty, however, as I'm not sure what my availability will be like when I am at last gainfully employed.

Hey all -

I've been swamped with work: I'm scrambling to finish writing my thesis so I can defend next month and graduate the month after that. I apologize for Kiki not coming out to play lately! :(

Away Message

September 21st, 2006 (12:24 pm)

*waves to all*

I'm going to be away on vacation (thank god!) for the next week and a half - cycling Skyline Drive/Blue Ridge Parkway through the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia! A few Civil War battlefields, too, I think. At any rate, I will be AFK - not that I've been very active lately, but, y'know, in case anyone is looking for me for anything.

See you all in 10 days!

Like everyone else, I think, RL has me swamped. This is what I get for trying to pack 2 years of MS thesis into 6 months. I'm not playing at work much anymore, and I usually am at work from 8 until 4, and then for at least a few more hours in the evening. And when I'm home? I usually am not interested in sitting at my computer more. I've also got a number of commissions I need to finish (my free-lance seamstress work) and a fair amount of artwork I'm also trying to get going (I hope to have an artist's table at AnimeBoston next year).

I need to sit down and watch Kiki's Delivery Service again sometime soon, too, because the muse is getting contrary and I need to get back in touch.

However, I'm still here, and still active! Hopefully, things will quiet down over the next few weeks and I can finally start running plots for Kiki again. And as ever, ping me if you need Keeks for anything.

Also, Happy Bastille Day!

At the Brownstone, Monday Night: Restoring a Few Celestial Powers

July 3rd, 2006 (03:23 pm)

It was evening, and it had been a full week - nearly to the hour - that Metatron had spent in the body of a guinea pig, so Kiki figured it was about time to turn him back. And Gabriel, now that he had been rescued from the garden.

Kiki made a general announcement to the Brownstone inhabitants that they would be less a pet and a houseplant in short order, if they wished to watch or make their goodbyes - or hellos, as the case may be.

She placed them both in the middle of the family room, and - it didn't take much - with a wave of her hand and a poof of air, the guinea pig was again a great beam of light, and the potted begonia was again a... small crab.

Close enough.

Monday at the Brownstone

June 26th, 2006 (02:38 pm)
current location: Brownstone
Mood:: accomplished

Kiki had spent much of the weekend holed up, busily studying while her mun was camping. If anyone asked her, she was working on solidifying her magical knowledge in preparation for her upcoming trials - which, she felt, were probably on the order of somewhere between "soon" and "imminent." So naturally, the casual observer would think that she would be quite preoccupied with preparations for that.

The casual observer, in this case, would also be most assuredly wrong - one reason, perhaps, that she hoped Aziraphale remained a casual observer in such a set of circumstances as this.

It wasn't that she wanted to lie to him, exactly... or even that she thought she was doing something truly bad or wicked; it was just that sometimes, it was so much easier to be the scapegrace that had already gone and done whatever it was than to be the disobedient girl who went ahead and did that said whatever after a guardian had already voiced their disapproval.

And Aziraphale? Would almost certainly voice some disapproval in this situation, if for no other reason than that he was more or less obligated to as the result of his job. All the better that it should be a done deal and a surprise whenever she managed to pull it off.

Thus, Kiki was studying her favorite subject: transformation magic, teasing out threads of transfiguration and transmutation and deciding which of each were most suited to this current task.

Aziraphale hadn't known that Kiki had snuck a little something into the wards around the Brownstone. Nothing that interfered, mind you, just a tiny spell slipped under his radar that would give Kiki a teeny little ping whenever a Certain Power decided to pay a rather glowy and disembodied visit to the Brownstone.

And now, with her research done and her spells all arranged and dancing at her fingertips, all Kiki had to do was sit back and wait for that little ping to make an appearance.

[For Metatron and the Brownstone posse! ...Which kind of sounds like the name of a band.]

Link Drops and Some Deviousness

June 22nd, 2006 (03:31 pm)
current location: The Brownstone

Kiki was feeling highly pleased. All-in-all, the past month had really been quite a good one, if a bit chaotic at times, but even that carried with it some degree of predictability when one lived in a city as unusual as Tropolis.

Link drop for a month, omg. )

Almost a full week of leisurely, quiet days had passed since the open mike night, days spent either working at the Leaf or delivering for Jam Pony, and in that amount of time, Kiki had had a bit of time to think.

Metatron and Gabriel - well, they really weren't much better than a couble of boys themselves, were they? Pranking Papa Phale and Uncle Jimmy like that. Really, it was fine by Kiki if they wanted to have a practical joke skirmish or whatever it was with the two that lived here on Earth (Is there a term, she wondered, for two couples - male couples - whose method of double-dating involved snark, long-suffering patience, and relentless teasing?) but she rather felt they'd had very poor consideration for herself. It wasn't that she was complaining, mind you, but a heads-up might have been nice. Just like when the Voice had metatronned her magic circle across half the town, sparking off the infamous week of swapped bodies: no consideration, whatsoever.

And they were nice and safe Upstairs, where they weren't likely to feel - or have to deal with - any of the effects of their mischief. That rather sounded a bit like the actions of a bully: pick on the ones beneath you from a position of strength and invulnerability, giggle over it, and enjoy the lark all the more because there's no chance of retribution. And really, when you got to the level of Gabriel and Metatron, retribution - or a divine scolding and finger shake - could only come from just two higher powers: the Father and the Son.

Perhaps...just perhaps...it might be time to remind said Folks Upstairs that certain small witches might play a role in nudging that finger-shaking-scolding in the proper direction.

Kiki. Jiji knew that look on his mistress' face, and it was a look that did not bode well - something that was confirmed as he glanced at the words in her notebook. Kiki. BAD IDEA, KIKI. Vengeance? Is that what you're planning? I can't even begin to tell you what level of a bad idea this is.

"It's not vengeance!" Kiki protested. "Vengeance is done out of a vindictive sense of self-righteousness. I'm not doing this vindictively. And I don't feel self-righteous about it. But - "

-They need to be taught a lesson? Jiji supplied.

"Well, yes, but -"

And how, exactly, is that not vengeance? Enlighten me, please.

"That's not my motivation! I mean, a few jokes are fine, but they forcibly altered Aziraphale and Wilson's bodies! They got no say in the matter, just woke up and poof! Were little kids. One, how is that free will? Two, it's getting to the point where they're practically picking on Papa Phale and Uncle James."

So you're picking on them back.

"Nooo..." Kiki said slowly.

And I'm still missing how this isn't self-righteous, Jiji added. And by plotting something against them, aren't you stooping to their level?

"Stooping," Kiki replied drily, "to the level of two of the highest Powers of Heaven?"

Motionless, Jiji stared at her, fixing her with his large pale eyes.

"Okay, alright, fine, yes, I'm 'stooping,' I'm being self-righteous and vindictive, and maybe even vengeful."

So long as you see that. Don't go into this with any romantic ideals or notions of being justified, because that's a sure-fire way to get yourself in trouble.

Kiki paused. "So you're not stopping me?"

Jiji sighed. As if you'd listen if I tried. I just want you to have your eyes open before you do anything that could be, dare I say, stupid. Or dangerous.

"It's not going to be anything drastic. Or wicked. Or permanant. Just a little bit of turning about being fair play and all."

Better. Jiji sounded encouraged.

"Like this: during all of these jokes and whatever that have been flying back and forth - mostly forth, because I don't see Phale or James in much of a position to be able to do much of the back part - I've been pretty much a neutral observer. Watching everything that goes on, and cleaning up the mess afterwards. Observing, and largely unobserved by Metatron or Gabriel, so far as I know. Metatron didn't even bother to check where he was landing before he blew apart that magic circle, so you can see how high I rate on their radar."

So you want attention.

"Not really. If I can avoid their trickery, I will - but I can't, because I'm the one usually cleaning up. I mean, where was Gabriel with his broom and mop when I had to scrub the kitchen five times in two days? I'm still indirectly affected and involved, and so are many many others, and I'm not sure Metatron and Gabriel take that into account - what of all the people in town?"

What of anyone who might be affected by what you do to Metatron? Jiji pointed out sensibly.

"True," Kiki sighed. "That is a point - but based on what Aziraphale says, it sounds like Metatron spends almost no time dealing with mortals or anything down here on Earth, and pestering Phale and Wilson is a sort of pet obsession of his. I don't think inconvenincing Metatron for a day or two will really have much impact, except in this household."

Jiji looked a little dubious.

"So," continued Kiki, "It's time for me to stop being a neutrally-observing member of the clean-up crew. This little witch is entering the fray, on the side of the Earth-dwellers. It's sort of like the prank war that went on between Harry and I and Draco back in high school, remember?"

All too well. So, what do you have in mind?

"The same thing that Metatron did to Uncle James and Papa Phale. I'm going to transform him for a day or two. Give him a little forced vacation from Elysium down here on the material plane."

You'll need an awfully powerful spell for that. But transformation is one of your specialties, Jiji conceded. And just what do you have in mind?

"I was thinking," Kiki answered, "a guinea pig."

Jiji held very still for a second, staring at Kiki, and then his tail twitched in wild excitement. Kiki? You have, now, my whole-hearted, absolute, complete, utter, and entire support.

With something of a snicker, Kiki flipped open her spellbooks and got to work.

Wednesday Night at the Brownstone, Beau Jardin

May 31st, 2006 (04:35 pm)

The streets were quiet as Kiki and Geoff, their dinner over, crossed by the cricket-filled park and turned towards the Brownstone, the pale street lamps glowing in the misty haze of a warm early summer night. Uncle James and Papa Phale had left the front stoop light on for her, she saw, but the rest of the windows of the stately, comfortable house were dark.

"It must be later than I thought," Kiki observed quietly, unlocking the door. "It looks like everyone is in bed already."

She silently pushed the front door shut behind them after they entered and turned on the hall light as she led the way to the staircase, shutting it off again once Geoff had followed. "I don't want to wake anyone up," she murmured, opening a door on the second floor. "Here's the spare room. I'll grab some towels for you; the bathroom's that door on the left."

Sunday Afternoon, Over the Flats

May 21st, 2006 (03:22 pm)

It was Sunday, and Kiki had a promise to keep, one she was eager to follow through with. The wind whistled past her ears as she skimmed over the rooftops, heading south; after a brief chat with Susan in Hyde Park, she made a lazy circle over the Flats, then dropped easily, touching down lightly on the sidewalk not ten feet from the door of the Brothers' place.

Resting her broom against her shoulder, Kiki rang the bell and waited.

Friday Morning, the Brownstone, Beau Jardin

May 19th, 2006 (12:43 pm)

The first thing Kiki noticed when she woke up in the morning was that Dr. Wilson's t-shirt was too large for her. It wasn't that it had stretched, or even that Dr. Wilson was above average size, it was actually more that she seemed to have shrunk in the night.

Kiki vaulted out of bed, and ran to the bathroom, staring at the face that greeted her in the mirror.

Short brown-black hair, tousled with sleep. Petite stature. Black eyes in a familiar face. Slim, girlish figure. She clapped her thin fingers to her face, almost in disbelief, and then to her chest, then realized that, for the first time in days, her movements had not been made awkward by the sensation of an extra appendage in her nether-regions.

With a whoop of joy, she jumped, raising triumphant fist in the air.

"I'm ME again! I'm ME again!"

It was a nice change from the earlier part of the week (Link drop)... )

Wednesday Night at the Brownstone

May 18th, 2006 (11:16 am)

Kiki-Yazoo (Kikzoo?) had left the Tea Leaf in a bitter mood. Everything was in an uproar because of Metatron and her own stupid spell. People were afraid, upset, in danger-

She stomped from Della Rosa back to Beau Jardin, and then around Beau Jardin for nearly an hour to burn off some of this rage she felt seething up, then, feeling calmer as the twilight settled, she walked back to the Brownstone.

The first thing out of her mouth after she let the door slam behind her was, "Good evening."

The second thing she said to her adopted guardians was, "Have you contacted Metatron yet? I think I may want to be there when you do. I'd like to thank him for sowing as much discord and pain in one shot that Crowley does in a whole week."

Wednesday Morning, the Brownstone

May 17th, 2006 (03:19 pm)

As nice as it was to sleep in her own bed, Kiki rather thought it would be better to sleep in her own body. And although she would never, ever, have said it aloud, she also felt that her first time having a boy in her bed had not at all or even remotely been close to what she might have ever expected.

It was weird to look on her world with Yazoo's added height; things seemed so different because she was looking through another's eyes, and to hear them with another's ears.

Ears. Sound. It tickled something at the back of her memory, something that now seemed fairly important, although it certainly was not so in all the chaos of yesterday. It jangled there at the back of her mind, like the ringing of a far-off phone -

Yazoo's phone. She had heard something ringing while she was having her staring contest with the bike.

Kiki hurried out of her room to go find the current inhabitor of her body, gave a small squeal when she realized she was wearing only boxers, and darted back in again.

"Oh, hang it all, Kiki, it's his body, and he's seen every inch of it before!" she scolded herself. She flung the door open again and marched out, feeling bold but nonetheless grasping her upper arms over her chest without even realizing it.

An Attempted Mugging in the Flats, Mid-Morning.

May 16th, 2006 (04:45 pm)

Somehow, Kiki had managed to survive the morning at the brothers' apartment, although Kadaj definitely knew something was wrong. Kiki had only just barely managed to cover her confusion. At least he had left before she had to shower, which she had done quickly, looking fixedly up at the shower spout as much as she could, and only rarely down at these odd parts of a body that wasn't hers. And then - this hair. It was so long; did he never tie it back? A short search had yielded a collection of scrunchies, and she used one - red, naturally - to keep her hair back.

Now she stood in the garage, looking again at the sleek black bike that crouched like a tense panther even when it wasn't running. She had experience with black cats, but not one as mechanical as this. It was a full ten minutes before she approached it, finally getting up the courage to swing a leg over and sit on it. It was wide, wider than she had expected and many times wider than the slim broomstick she was used to riding and -

Oh sheesh... )

Tuesday Morning - Most Certainly Not Kiki's Room at the Brownstone

May 15th, 2006 (11:12 pm)

Kiki awoke slowly, peacefully, blissfully refreshed after a long sleep following a couple of trying and long days of spellwork. She had channeled some amazing bit of power, she realized, shaping it to her will, working it like a potter with clay, or an musician with melody. She felt different because of it.

She was different because of it, she discovered as she opened her eyes and caught a glimpse of strands of silver hair, longer than her own short brown-black coif. Magic was known to have, on occasion, unusual side effects...

But this was more than a side effect. This was not her room. These were not her dusty-rose walls, nor her sheer white curtains through which she usually saw the blue sky and the trees of the garden. Kiki started, and as she did so, she realized she was - she blushed - naked. Almost immediately following upon this rapid discovery came a faint shuffled behind her and the accompanying realization that she was not alone in bed. With a small gasp, she reflexively jerked the sheets up around her chin, her heart pounding.

Oh my god. Where am I? she thought frantically, not daring to look around but staring at the cieling. WHERE AM I?

She took a breath, trying to calm herself surreptitiously without disturbing the other figure in the bed. What did she remember? Aziraphale and Jiji had gotten her to bed the night before. It had been late. She had been exhausted. She dimly recalled tugging off her clothes and dropping them over the side of the bed, too tired to put them away, and slipping on the first thing she had to hand - the black satin nighty that Crowley had manifested for her once upon a time. Did he having something to do with this? It would be rather in his style... Kiki thought back further. What came before that? The spell she had cast, that Metatron interrupted, that she had used to get -

To get Phale back in his own body. Kiki gasped.

Oh my god.

The question was now not so much, "Where am I?" as it was now, "Whose body am I in?!"

Working up her courage a little, Kiki glanced down at herself. She almost immediately pulled the sheet down over herself again. She hadn't even made it down that far, but -

She couldn't hold it in this time.

"Oh my god," she uttered aloud. "I'm a boy!"

[EDIT: Oh yeah. Forgot to mention? For [info]brothers_three to make poor Kiki flail further.]

I've been lax in this...

Kiki arrived in Tropolis in a storm, crashing through the window at Phale and Wilson's Brownstone. She had a quiet Thursday morning, settling in, and on Friday she went out around town after a delicious breakfast. She managed to get a job at Jam Pony couriers where she met Bobby, and on Saturday she ran into Yazoo at the amusement park. They rode the rollercoaster together!

Sunday, she stopped at the concert in the park, and then socialized at the BBQ in her honor, where she met all sorts of new and old friends again: Lana, Phoebe, Crowley, Chihaya, Cassie, Simon, Ben and Michael, Ranger, Freya, Beverly, Abby, and a had nice long quiet chat, like the old times, with Aziraphale.

Kiki helped out at the Tea Leaf on Monday. That night, after a special errand for Aziraphale,, Kiki chatted with Freya on the bridge and then went to Lana's to meet up with Lana and Phoebe for a girl gab-fest. Unfortunately, she learned from Phoebe of her latest troubles, and that Paige had been killed. Rodney came by and threw an enormous hissy fit that had Phoebe ready to dropkick him over the balcony and Kiki contemplating how he would like it if he spent the next year in a cage as a rat. Kiki worked late at the Leaf on Tuesday, and at home that night learned about Phale's most recent mission from Wilson. She spent the rest of the week working at Jam Pony and puttering about until Wilson and Aziraphale left for Sara and Gil's wedding in Las Vegas. Kiki housesat with Pogo and Jiji, and Yazoo came by Saturday night to check on them, and hung around for a quiet chat.

This got Kiki to thinking; thoughts became plans and plans became spells, until they were interrupted by a hyperactive little ferret. Kiki stayed up all Sunday night and worked through Monday trying to figure out a way to get Aziraphale out of Pogo's body and in his own again.

It would have worked, if only...

Prelude to a Body Swap, Part 2: The Brownstone, Late Monday Night

May 15th, 2006 (10:09 am)

Kiki was tired. Sometime in the wee sma's of the morning, she had fallen asleep on her books, rousing only when Wilson gently touched her shoulder to wake her and bring her a late breakfast tea. Mumbling her thanks and wiping at her eyes, she drank half the brew in one long gulp, shook the cobwebs out of her brain, and got to work again.

And she'd solved it. Hours of puzzling out what had gone wrong, followed by more hours figuring out how to make it right, laboring over the spellbooks, pacing the floor to rid herself of exhausted nervous energy, tracing and retracing out magical pathways, comparing the influence of the components and elements she could use, and now she had the answer, written out carefully across three pages, front and back, of her notebook.

"Don't worry," she said giving Wilson and Aziraphale - Pogo - whomever - a wan smile. "I'm not so worn that I can't pull this off now." Knealing on the floor, she painstakingly gridded out the magic circle with all its arcs and tangents and runes and symbols.

"Okay. Aziraphale? You absolutely must keep Pogo inside the circle until I'm finished. And when I'm done, there should be just Pogo left inside the circle, and you should appear outside of it, just as you were before all this happened. If Pogo goes scampering off - I don't even want to think about what sort of a mess that would create."

Brightcookieman? Aziraphale could feel Pogo's nervousness about this entire situation, but it wasn't long before the angel had calmed him and they were waiting within the circle as Kiki finished the last lines that would focus the spell.

"Ready?" Kiki waited, hand upraised, for assent from everyone - Jiji, Wilson, Aziraphale and Pogo - before she began.

She was more than halfway into it, and progressing well with no sign of flaw or unexpected occurence when a sudden bright shaft of blue-white light shot down from above, blasting half of the diagram into vaporized powder. Kiki jumped a mile, shocked out of her concentration, and when she saw what had happened, she had only one thing to say. Really, it was more of an agonized wail.

"GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!"

Kiki Takayama [userpic]

Late Sunday Night at the Brownstone

May 14th, 2006 (10:46 pm)

Kiki had been thinking about what Wilson and Yazoo had told her all day - about the angel that had been sliding, and Aziraphale's mission to save him, how Aziraphale had to fool his friends to fool his enemies, and Wilson running scared in the city, hiding and hunted, and all the damge to the friendships and trust that they'd shared with so many. They were in no danger now - they were on their way home from Las Vegas, and Sara and Gil's wedding, and all was right with the world.

Was it?

Her chin in her hand, she frowned in thought. The demons hunting Wilson had traced him through his link to Aziraphale - through the palpable aura of grace he carried both of his own nature and of his relationship with the angel. She felt it too, the bright comforting warmth that surrounded both mortal and angel through the love and the unexpected family ties that had sprung up to bind the three of them together. It made them traceable, especially to hellspawn with senses just so attuned to tracking such currents of positive energy - and sent on a mission to do exactly that.

But - if this could be somehow obscured...not stripped away, not removed, just masked, as it were, beneath a shield of extraordinary ordinary; if they could appear to be as normal as her blindly prosaic boss at Jam Pony - well, in that there lay a germ of merit. And an idea. Kiki got to her feet slowly, still turning it over in her mind, going through what would be necessary, and went to her room, taking her spellbooks from her desk.

Back downstairs in the library, she sat down as slowly again, opening the spellbooks and musing to herself aloud. "At its most basic, it's a spell of protection - a shield, a ward. It will have to be based on an eschewance spell...but it also has to not only mask the auras, but to produce a false one as well - which would be... manifestation. Conjuration or illusion, wonderful. Not always my best. And it needs to be really convincing, if it's to fool demons." Her eyes suddenly lit up. "Jiji! If this works, we could maybe shield Phoebe! And maybe even Bel!"

It would have to be really good to fool the Source, though, Jiji said thoughtfully, flicking his tail for Pogo to stalk and pounce on. But I think you just might have a good idea here. Although -

"Yes?"

Before you start casting spells on people, maybe you should get their permission, first. Just a thought.

"Well, yes," Kiki admitted, "Plus I need to make sure it works before I start masking everyone, too."

Could you perhaps do the Brownstone?

"I'm not sure," Kiki confessed, shaking her head. "I'd have to make adaptations first because it's so large, it's not a living creature, and to work around the wards Aziraphale already has in place. I think I'd rather try something smaller."

Then what about us? Jiji asked sensibly. Kiki stared. I'm serious, Kiki. And I'm actually volunteering for this. I think this could really be a useful spell to have around, and I'll freely admit that I don't want to become kitty-kibble for some grace-hunting hellspawn. It might be a complicated spell, but your magic has gotten worlds better, and I think you can do it.

Blinking a little, surprised and gratified, Kiki asked a moment later, "And what about Pogo? Does he understand, and will he agree?"

There was a flurried furry exchange, of which Kiki only understood Jiji's half, while Pogo's excited chitters were beyond her. Pogo twirled in a little circle, bounced over the pillows, and pounced on Jiji again. Kiki took that as a yes, which was confirmed when Jiji reported, I've explained it all to him, and he understands and agrees.

"Alright then," Kiki nodded, "I'd better get to work, then."

The next hour or two were spent writing out long lists of ingredients, checking and cross checking their interactions, researching the proper layouts and diagrams of the components that would be needed to produce each spell and puzzling out how to combine them, and lastly, working out the necessary words that would direct the magic as she wished.

"I think," she said at last, the excitement mounting in her voice, "that I might have it!" Forcing herself to be thorough, she slowly double checked every aspect of the combination she had developed. It all seemed to check out. She glanced at the clock.

"Should we go ahead with this tonight, or wait until tomorrow?"

Why not tonight? I'm curious to see if it works, Jiji said. He was intrigued and interested - even excited, although he probably would not have admitted it aloud. But he had confidence in his mistress, and had to confess that watching her putting her skill to work was one of the most fascinating things he ever watched. He nudged Pogo, who had gradually gotten bored with the long wait and had curled up on a pillow to nap.

Kiki laid out the spell according to her notes, taking care to make each line of the powder she poured out meticulously even and straight. "I'll need you both in the middle of this square," she indicated with her finger. "Be careful not to mess up the lines. Then I'll close the last boundary around you and start. Once I begin, you can't leave the square until I'm finished, so this is sort of the now-or-never point if you change your minds."

Pogo chattered. Jiji translated, No, we haven't changed our minds. We'll try it. Jiji bent down and Pogo hopped onto his back; the cat then stepped gingerly and delicately over the lines. Your turn!

Pouring out the last of the sand she had ground especially for this spell, Kiki finished the diagram, remarking, "You know, I hope this doesn't scorch the floor..."

She lit her candles at the cardinal points, the corners of the square in which the two animals waited, sat down with her next components lined in careful order next to her, and began.

Saturday Evening at the Brownstone

May 13th, 2006 (09:34 pm)

"The house is ours tonight, boys!" Kiki grinned, sticking a bag of popcorn in the microwave. "We have a stack of movies, ranging from pure sugar to pure adrenaline, all guaranteed to rot our brains! Temporarily anyway. Hey, paws off, you two, this here is mine," she said, holding her hard cider away from the feline and the ferret. She settled in on the couch with the remote with Jiji and Pogo scampering over her to vie for the best spots on the couch.

She was a little surprised when the doorbell rang.

Tuesday Night

May 9th, 2006 (07:01 pm)

Kiki flipped the sign at the Tea Leaf to "Closed," and locked the deadbolt on the inside of the door. She went around and turned the chairs up on the wiped-down tables, humming to herself, then followed that by a trip around with the broom - the shop one, not her personal one - as Jiji's white gold eyes watched her from the depths of an armchair. Having nearly finished the inventory of the bookshelves, Kiki sat down for another half hour to finish, then finally laid down her pen and stretched, a little astonished at how dark it was outside.

"Come on, Jeej," she smiled at the cat, "let's get home before Phale starts wondering."

Shutting off the lights, the witch and the cat slipped out the back door, and, satisfied that it was locked, each hopped easily and habitually onto the broom - her personal one, not the shop one this time - and sailed up over the Leaf.

It was only minutes later that they touched down in front of the Brownstone. Kiki saw Wilson's note that he was out as she set about ransacking the fridge for dinner (oooh, leftovers from the barbecue!), and she settled in on the couch in front of the television - It was Tuesday. "Casa" was on! She'd missed most of it, so it wasn't too much of a problem when she fell asleep on the couch with Pogo draped over her shoulder and Jiji sprawled across her stomach.

Monday Errands and a Special Delivery

May 8th, 2006 (09:24 am)

Monday afternoon, Kiki checked her map carefully, tucked it in her pocket, swung her leg over her broom and vaulted swiftly into the bright blue sky.

Crowley's floral shop, Aziraphale had told her, was in the north end of East Eden, and, as she expected, a low flyover made it quite easy to pick out the greenhouse - and was that dark spot she could see through the foggy glass the owner himself? Kiki couldn't quite tell. She descended lightly to the ground, touching down like a feather, and stepped inside to order a dozen white roses, a dozen colorful and variegated tulips, and two dark blue irises.

It must have been an odd sight - a girl in black, flying a broomstick over the residential skyline, her arm loaded down with a riotous mass of flowers - but she landed without misshap, either to herself or the blooms, outside the Brownstone and carred the delivery inside to where Aziraphale was waiting for it.

Not long after, she headed back to the Tea Leaf.
